General: Bitter cherry (Prunus emarginata) is a native, deciduous shrub, four to twelve feet high, or sometimes a small tree up to thirty feet high (McMinn ).The leaves are oblong to oval, fine toothed, and rounded at the tip. The flowers are fragrant, blooming between April and May, in clusters of five to twelve. Sanguisorba minor is an introduced, hardy, herbaceous, relatively long-lived, evergreen, non-leguminous, perennial forb. It is usually a branched caudex (thick base of stems) with a prominent taproot and sometimes-weakly rhizomatous.

Society has long relied on working landscapes to directly provide ecosystem functions & services in the form of food and fiber. Increasingly, there is growing interest in these lands also providing suites of additional services such as open space for recreation, habitat for wildlife, carbon storage, nutrient cycling, and water filtration. A challenge land managers face is that it is not often. Rangeland monitoring has focused recently on rangeland health, leading to conservation management based on reducing bare ground, stabilizing soil (Pellant et al. ), and anticipating threshold changes (Bestelmeyer et al. ).Rather than focusing on climax plant communities, the current plant community and soil conditions are compared to a potential natural community Cited by:

Taeniatherum is a genus of Eurasian and North African plants in the grass family known by the common name medusahead.. The only recognized species is Taeniatherum caput-medusae and is native to southern and central Europe (from Portugal to European Russia), North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia), and Asia (from Turkey + Saudi Arabia to Pakistan + Kazakhstan). Family: Poaceae. The traditional means of monitoring rangelands are neither statistically reliable nor economically feasible. The traditional approaches used locally are difficult to scale upward. Unique properties of landscapes only emerge as land is looked at with coarser scales (West ). The following project proposes fresh approaches utilizing remote sensing imagery in a regional context to .

Rangelands encompass nearly 50% of the earth's land area and is defined as land where people have intervened to manage the vegetation with livestock for economic gain. The majority of the intermountain rangelands of North America between the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra-Cascade Range did not evolve with large generalist herbivore grazing.

The current theory and practice of rangeland assessment have a long history that is closely related to the ways that rangelands were used and studied. The nineteenth century was a period of exploration and development of the rangelands of the western United States.
